I designed to change the entrance of the the store. The door way needs to be deeper in and a frame to make it looks more like a chinese store.

Now the entrance gave a very diffeerent feeling than before.

I also import the character to test out how they work together.

This shot will be appear after the Hill scene. So, I try to do some test render for it.

Again, alot of lighting need to be fix up. But the overall feeling is not bad.

Opening Scene modeling - Stage 2

After spending a bit of time on model a new sign and modify the ground. The scene looks much better than bfore.

Now the whole thing works together!!!

This is a close up on the sign. I made the sign looks old and dirty to match our story.

I also added some timber fence and wire to direct the audience eyes.

Still need to fix up the lighting on the car. (something is wrong!!!)

I think is time to do some new stuff and finish the store later. This will be the first scene in the film. We need to see the city at the back and a city sign in front.

I created a lot of city light by using Paint effect in Maya. The result come out quite realistic.

Trying to get the postion right. Need to create a distance feeling. Lighting will be a great challenge in this scene.

Finally, I rotated the camera a bit to get a better shot. I also put the car in to test out the overall looking. It came out quite well!!!!

After got the szie of the store right, I put some textures in to see how it looks. Also, some base lighting added to get the right feeling. Of course there are still alot of texturing need to be done.

It looks pretty good by now.

After talking to Ben and Haakon, we thought the store was a bit too small. So, I extended the high and length of the store. Now, we can have more space for the fight scene at the end.

It looks much better than before.

Have more space inside the store now.

Most of the texture is done!!!! The car is 80% finish now!!!!!

The number plate looks pretty good!!!

After the draft store done, I started to put some buildings around the store. I'm trying to get a city feels.

I added the some Toon outlines on the buildings, to test how do they look.

Haakon and Ben wanted the car look more 2d, so I try to put some texture in. I created this texture by using Surface Shader and render it in Mental Ray. The outline on the edge of the car really create a 2d feeling. The shading is looking good too.

In Week 5, I started looking at car books in the library. Also, I counldn't find anymore 1930' car on the web that I like. Luckly, I found this book got so many different type of car. e.g. Touring Cars, Speedsters, Roadsters, Fordor, Sedans, Coupes..........(the above photos are some of the design I like in this book!!!)

I love this streetcar!!!!

Some of the photo I found on the web in Week 4. Ben and Haakon were still not sure how many car and other transportation we need in the film. So, I think it would be good to start searching it now before is too later. I found out that streetcar and bus were quite common in US 1930-50.
